Listen to the following Podcast. The script is also included below.
This article gives an insightful list of the ways in which Podcasts could be used in the classroom, or on a broader scale, the school. Included are examples of schools all over the United States who have used Podcasts and the ways in which they have done so. The article explains that Podcasts are easy to create and minimal equipment is needed, and just like blogs and Wikis, they reach a wide audience.
I think Podcasts would be effective when used within the classroom as both a form of assessing and teaching. In terms of assessment, they give children a new and exciting way to be creative and express their ideas. Podcasts open up new doors for teaching such as using them after music recitals, assemblies, teaching a foreign language, recapping on what was done in class, as well as encouraging children to use their listening and speaking skills.
Through Padcasts, students learn how to contribute to a class/ group discussion through online spoken magazines. Children also grow a different understanding of different writing genres such as interviews, creative writing stories and procedures through publishing them orally.
The possibilities for Podcasts are endless! This site gave me many new ideas for ways I can use technology constructively in the classroom!
